5 Day Reboot (and lose a few lbs) Plan

#1: Why 5 days? 5 days is just enough of a stretch without feeling unattainable. The hardest part is day 3. All the cravings will kick in this day but if you know you only have 2 more days, you’ll have a better chance of pushing through the cravings.

#2: Hold Off – Whether you are “allergic” or “intolerant” to these foods or not, inflammatory foods can leave you feeling sluggish, achy and reaching for a 5th cup of coffee. Giving your body a break from these common foods can be tough but well worth it.

  • Dairy - Whether you’re lactose intolerant or not, diary can be inflammatory, increasing mucous production in the gut.
  • Gluten (wheat, rye, oats, barley)– I happen to think we are all gluten intolerant. The food industry keeps hybridizing wheat making it difficult to digest and creating more work for our digestive enzymes.
  • Alcohol – Yes, I know – it sucks. Even 1 glass of wine can tax the already working hard liver.
  • Sugar – Sugar, no matter the form, sugar weakens the immune system. Unfortunately that includes all forms of sweetener like agave, honey, maple syrup and diet fillers like splenda and aspartame(especially horrible for us as they cross the blood brain barrier affecting our neurotransmitters). Stevia is seen as a nice alternative as long as there are no additional fillers added to it.
  • Processed Foods – This includes chips, crackers, microwaved foods, frozen pizzas. The processing of these foods can form toxic chemicals. As well as be filled with more inflammatory or difficult to digest foods like yeast, hydrolyzed soy protein, whey, MSG, xanthan gum, guar gum etc.
  • Juice/Fruit – Sure juice is full of vitamins but it is also a rush of fructose into the system. This creates stress for the liver (which processes fructose) and the pancreas then has to work in overtime tobreakdown the sugars. If you like fruit, I suggest eat it for the fiber instead of drinking it, but limit 1 piece per day for 5 days and see how you do. Some people are fructose intolerant or have a blood glucose crash on fruit. Other’s that eat it with protein/fat may bloat. I like to cut it out for a few days and then reintroduce back in.
  • Eating out –Unfortunately restaurants use many Omega 9 oils. What’s even worse is when these oils are reheated. Creating dangerous trans and hydrogenated oil that is proven to weaken arteries, lower good Omega 3 oils and weaken the immune system.

#3: Enjoy

  •  Lemon – Lemon is especially cleansing and alkaline. It can clear up a foggy brain. Put lemon in your water every time you drink for the next 5 days.
  • Veggies at Every Meal - Especially for breakfast.  Most of us are thinking cereal and protein. Toast and egg, oatmeal etc. Veggies add amazing nutrients and fiber, which is great especially first thing in the morning.
  • Grass-fed – Chock full of natural Omega 3’s, grass fed is always the way to go.
  • Mineral Water – Mineral water can also help alkalize and naturally detox.
  • Sauna’s/Steam Room – I personally love my at home portable infra-red sauna but the steam room at the spa is great too
  • Wild – Think Wild Salmon, Tuna, Sardines. Avoid the farm-raised stuff.
  • Doing Nothing – At the New Year especially, we feel this pressure to plan, work out and run around again. While mildly “cleansing” it might be best to just give your body permission to relax and the energy it needs to re-balance.
  • Get a Massage/Body Scrub – This can stimulate circulation and mildly remove toxins.
  • Organic/Nitrate/Hormone Free – We are getting enough added pesticides/hormones/preservatives added in our body when we eat out. As best as you can try and go organic.
