Fight Fatigue While Traveling

Whether vacationing or traveling for work, time away from the daily routine can be tough on those wanting to lead a healthy lifestyle.  Eating out, splurging, drinking, and bug-infested airplanes can really mess with the immune system. After returning from a 2 week trip to Greece, I was excited to share some travel tips to help fight fatigue and keep your body healthy and strong.

Ways To “Fly” High on Energy While Traveling:

  • Bring some buffered, powdered Vitamin C and drop in at least 1,000mg into your water daily. Vitamin C supports the immune system and is easy to take. The powdered and buffered kind absorbs quickly and is gentle on the stomach.
  • Eat some protein before having your wine, beer, dessert or coffee. Grabbing some protein first ensures that your adrenals, liver and pancreas aren’t taxed with cortisol and insulin producing stimulants by slowing down the absorption.
  • Find a sauna or steam room either in the hotel or at a local gym/spa to detoxify germs, increase circulation and rejuvenate.
  • Get out and move, whether it’s walking the streets of Athens or hopping on the treadmill. Finding a way to keep moving, even if it’s for 20 minutes, significantly helps fight jet lag, stress and fatigue. No gym – take in squats, lunges and triceps dips in your hotel room.
  • Wait 20 minutes before applying sunscreen.  Vitamin D absorption happens in the first 20 minutes of sun exposure. Lather on the sunscreen right away and you miss the benefits of the powerful Vitamin.

  • Take probiotics (good gut health) and digestive enzymes (digestive support) to strengthen the immune system especially when exposed to different foods, parasites and bacteria your body may not be used to.
  • Go easy on the sweets and alcohol. I know tough, especially when on vacation. The truth is these things misbalance the immune system in so many ways and can lead to fatigue when overdone.
